Wednesday March 19, 2008 / Various TimesMassages and Spa Treatment Packages at Cote d'Azur Spa
6:30pm - 70-minute Massage Package
How was your experience?
I've been getting massages at this place (through Goldstar) pretty much ever since they moved to the location on Fair Oaks. And most of the therapists I've had there have been pretty good. Guy I had last night was awful. AWFUL. Went very deep and when I yelped in pain (or said "ow"), he just said, "Yes, I know" and kept right on doing it. When I later complained, he said, "Just so you know, I wasn't pressing very hard; you're just very sensitive." Which is the biggest load of hooey I've ever heard, seeing as I've been getting massages fairly regularly from many different people (including numerous others at Cote d'Azur) and every single one of them has been capable of reducing the pressure if necessary. He also completely left out the "Cold Stone Facial" (an alleged $30 value, for which I'd already paid as part of the package). This is, actually, the second time someone at Cote d'Azur left out something I'd paid for. The last time, I'd paid for a package that included "hot stone integration," and there were no hot stones. I complained after the session and was given a gift certificate to add hot stones with my next massage. (I was pretty cool with this at the time. In retrospect, though, since I only go to them via goldstar, and the goldstar massage package is SUPPOSED to include hot stones, I'm not real clear on when I'd ever use this.) I'm not the sort to just randomly diss a place. And, honestly, I've gotten good massages at reasonable prices there through goldstar for what seems like years. But with the recent increase in their prices, they're not as great of a value compared to other spas, and the fact that (via goldstar) you can't choose which massage tech you're going to get means that you risk getting someone who will beat you up for an hour AND leave stuff out of the package that you already paid for. Reluctantly, I have to concede I will never go there again, and warn everyone else.
