Assigned at Box Office Special (Limit 2)
How was your experience?
I'm glad I finally saw a production of this fun, campy, original, and better-than-most musical after my friends back home in New York had raved about the original off-Broadway production. Unfortunately, the weakest part of the production was the lead actor! "Zanna" threw away most of his lines and lyrics with a voice that was weaker than anyone else in the cast. When he attempted to belt, he barely managed to screech. He may have been cute, but shouldn't casting for a musical place a greater priority on vocal talent? (Was this supposed to be "Zanna, don't...sing, please!" or "Zanna, don't...try to hit those high notes...you're not Celine/Mariah/etc." ?) Luckily, the rest of the ensemble made up for his limitations with strong, earnest performances and very well-timed comic lines. Even for a preview performance, there were only a few flubs, and overall, I had a good time. Go for a fun night out with an original, fantasy musical fable!
