La Jolla Playhouse presents the American adaptation of Neva
, an award-winning Chilean drama by Guillermo Calderón. It's 1905, and three actors have gathered at a St. Petersburg theater to rehearse a production of The Cherry Orchard
. One of them happens to be Anton Chekhov's actual widow, a mourning Olga Knipper, who draws her co-stars into acting out a psychodrama that delves deeply into their real lives and loves. Meanwhile, outside, unseen striking workers are being gunned down by the Tsarist regime. Calderón savagely examines the interplay between art and history in this tightly crafted drama.
