The Berkeley FinnishHall built by Finnish immigrants back in 1932 was created to help orient newly emigrated Finnish people to life in the United States. The Hall also helps preserve the arts and cultural heritage of Finnish poeple Since that time, the Berkeley FinnishHall has evolved into a social and cultural center for many generations of Finnish families living in the Berkeley and greater Bay Area. It has also helped serve as a connection with visiting scholars from Finland associated with the nearby University of California Berkeley, as well as Stanford University. It also has helped Finns connect with the greater Finnish musical and arts talents found in the Bay Area. The Hall has also provided a place of voting for Finnish Nationals living in the US and registered Ex Patriots. Ongoing Finnish programs meeting at the hall include the monthly meetings of the United Finnish Kaleva Brothers and Sisters for Lodge 21 and Kaleva Ski Club. The children's Suomi Koulu cultural group meets twice per month for young children. Monies earned from renting out rooms help to preserve the Finnish history and cultural heritage celebrated at the Hall for many generations.
