The Folger’s Elizabethan Theatre, modeled after the innyard theaters popular in Shakespeare’s day, hosts more than 40,000 audience members each year. It presents a full calendar of performances and programs, from the Helen Hayes Award-winning Folger Theatre productions and Folger Poetry readings to early music concerts by the Folger Consort and family activities.

BY METRO: Take Metro Red Line to the Union Station stop.
From Union Station, walk south on First Street, NE, toward the US Capitol for about five blocks.
Turn left on East Capitol Street.
Walk one block on East Capitol Street and cross Second Street, SE. The Folger is on the right, between Second and Third Streets. By Metrorail Orange and Blue Lines:
Take Metro’S Orange or Blue Line to the Capitol South stop. Exit the Metro and take a right on C Street, SE.
Turn left on Second Street, SE.
Cross Pennsylvania Avenue, walk one block, and take a right on to East Capitol Street. The Folger is on the right, between Second and Third Streets, SE. BY METROBUS:
Several Metrobus routes include bus stops within walking distance of the Folger, including bus routes along First Street, East Capitol Street, Pennsylvania Avenue, and other major roads. For information about bus routes from your specific location, click here. BY CAR: The Folger does not have a visitor parking lot. Limited street parking is available near the Folger; allow time to find a parking space. During the day, paid parking may be available at the National Capital Bank on Pennsylvania Avenue, near Third Street. Paid parking is also available at Union Station, a short taxi ride from the Folger. Visitors displaying the international symbol of accessibility may park in three spaces on East Capitol Street just before Third Street, outside the Elizabethan Theatre entrance. (To reserve one of these accessible spaces for use during a performance, please call the Folger Box Office ahead of time.) The following directions help avoid potentially congested areas around the US Capitol. By car from Virginia: Take Route 395 to the Fourteenth Street Bridge. Stay in the middle lanes (do not branch left on Route 1). Continue on the expressway, passing exits for the US Capitol and South Capitol Street.
Take the exit for Sixth Street, SE. Turn left on Sixth Street, headed north.
Drive about six blocks to Pennsylvania Avenue.
Turn left on Pennsylvania Avenue.
Drive three blocks to Third Street, SE.
Turn right on Third Street.
The Folger is the second building on the left. To reach the front of the building, turn left on East Capitol Street. By car from Maryland: Start from Route 295, the Baltimore-Washington Parkway. To reach Route 295 from north of the city, take Beltway Exit 22 south; to reach Route 295 from the south, take Beltway Exit 2 north
Exit from Route 295 to Pennsylvania Avenue, traveling west toward Washington.
Drive about sixteen blocks on Pennsylvania Avenue to Third Street, SE.
Turn right on Third Street.
The Folger is the second building on the left. To reach the front of the building, turn left on East Capitol Street. By car in Washington, DC, from the Rock Creek Parkway: From the Rock Creek Parkway, merge onto Route 395N / the Southeast Expressway.
Pass the exits for the US Capitol and South Capitol Street.
Take the exit for Sixth Street, SE. Turn left on Sixth Street, headed north.
Drive about six blocks to Pennsylvania Avenue.
Turn left on Pennsylvania Avenue.
Drive three blocks to Third Street, SE.
Turn right on Third Street.
The Folger is the second building on the left. To reach the front of the building, turn left on East Capitol Street. By car in Washington, DC, from Massachusetts Avenue: Take Massachusetts Avenue past Union Station, traveling east.
Turn right on Fourth Street, NE.
Drive about five blocks.
Turn right on East Capitol Street.
The Folger is on the left side of East Capitol Street between Second and Third Streets. From Out of Town By air:
All three of the major airports serving metropolitan Washingtonâe"Reagan National Airport, Dulles International Airport, and Baltimore-Washington International (BWI) Airportâe"offer taxi and shuttle services to downtown Washington. Washingtonâe™s subway system, Metrorail, includes a stop at Reagan National Airport. The airport stop is on the Blue and Yellow Lines. Click here for information on Metro stops near the Folger . By train:
Washingtonâe™s main railroad station is Union Station, about five blocks from the Folger. Taxicabs are normally available at Union Station, and the Folger should be a short, inexpensive ride. To walk to the Folger from Union Station, follow the same route as for the Union Station Metro stop.
