What a fabulous venue and a grand performance. Breathtaking. The Strathmore is a gem.

attended National Philharmonic: Bach’s St. John Passion on Apr 11 2015

The production was quite beautiful, and the hall itself was very well-suited to the music. We enjoyed it, even with the distracting rustling of pages turning (the lyrics were in German, with a facing translation provided to the audience).

attended National Philharmonic: The Artistry of Richard Stoltzman on Oct 17 2009

We greatly enjoy Stolzman's recordings and were not disappointed by his performance. The Mozart was superb; the Copland breath-taking. We were very pleased with our seats. Thanks Goldstar.

attended National Philharmonic: Sarah Chang Plays Vivaldi’s Four Seasons on May 17 2014

Terrific young violinist. The audience, however, interrupted with applause after every single part or movement which affected the continuity of the work for the listener, as Four Seasons' movements really closely relate to each other. Still a...continued

First time at Strathmore. Acoustics amazing. Parking at the subway across the way easy. Just plan on 20 minutes to get out!

attended National Philharmonic: All Beethoven on Apr 03 2011

In at least one half of the individual movements, the orchestra was out of tune and sounded dreadful. The winds, especially the bassoon, did not play well. It is difficult to make the beautiful music on the program sound bad, but in this concert,...continued

attended National Philharmonic Choral Masterworks: Handel’s Messiah on Dec 20 2008

This version of Messiah was done at breakneck speed. I just saw a presentation in Nashville, which did the first part in 1 hour & 10 minutes--this was was done in less than an hour! Such speed means that the contrasts in tempi are completely...continued

attended National Philharmonic: Mozart’s Jupiter Symphony on Jan 18 2020

Back in June we heard a Mozart concert played by the Vienna Philharmonic, generally considered to be the finest orchestra in the world. So I will not compare last night's concert with that one. However, the National Philharmonic gave a very fine...continued

attended National Philharmonic: Brian Ganz, Richard Stoltzman and Debussy on May 05 2012

The NPO all-Debussy concert was Ok, but in one important respect, it was a major diaappointment. The reason I went to this concert was to hear Richard Stoltzman, the premier clarinet virtuoso. The work he performed, Rhapsodie for Clarinet and...continued

attended National Philharmonic: Sarah Chang Plays Vivaldi’s Four Seasons on May 18 2014

NPO's concert of May 18th was both bad and great. The opening work, R. Strauss' Metamorphosen, played well, must be the worst thing ever written by Strauss. To say it is uninteresting is to give it too much praise. I kept wishing that one or...continued

The 9th was beyond words wonderful! I rarely enjoyed this concert as much as i did this one! I know the piece very well - so to be so well surprised was an added bonus! the tempo was perfect, the choir was clear and the venue is a great one for...continued

It was a very exciting event! Both pieces were well done: good energy and the great accustics of the hall - make it even more ecxiting.
The Cello concerto was new for me, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

attended Bizet’s Carmen on Jan 09 2010

This was a great way to present opera. Though we missed the sets and beautiful costumes, the music and voices were glorious and having a narrator is a great idea.
