attended KING-FM Listener’s Choice: Handel’s Water Music & A Bach Brandenburg on Mar 05 2010

Baroque music is light and effervescent like champagne. I always feel happy after the baroque concerts and wonder why so few attend. The flute concerto was my favorite of this evening. The young soloist had an unusual, full moon night sort of...continued

attended Seattle Symphony: Conductor Andrew Manze Leads Baroque Themes & Variations on May 08 2010

Andrew Manze is funny and smart about music as only Brits can be. Totally enjoyed his stories about the composers and compositions. The music was good, not great, (though it was played well by the Symphony), but with the addition of the...continued

attended New World Untuxed on Oct 03 2014

The contrast between the Dvorak Bagatelles by a quartet from the orchestra was exactly what the Music Director ordered. Music Director Ludovic Merlot has talents in many directions. In this case both performance and programming. The New World...continued

attended Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony on Jan 02 2015

The Beethoven 9th is a challenge many conductors accept as a chance to show off their skills in an orchestral and choral challenge.
The young Englishman Matthew Halls led the evening with Mozart's Symphony #31 in D. Mr. Halls has an interesting...continued

attended Seattle Symphony: Beethoven Untuxed on Apr 29 2016

The series becomes even more interesting with the challenge of programming a familiar piece with one less familiar, a brass quintet this time.

An absolutely wonderful, magical evening! I loved each piece but Pat-a-pan and Ave Maria were stellar. The young cellist and violinist that were showcased were amazing! I walked out with a smile on my face and joy in my heart!

attended From Bach to Handel on Mar 12 2022

Good to get out and enjoy music after pandemic isolation. The orchestra was great, as usual. The chorale was also good, with some interesting pandemic-inspired aspects. Singers wore masks throughout. (Soloists removed theirs while singing). ...continued

Simply outstanding! It doesn't hurt that Beethoven's 9th is a stunning musical work, but the energy of the conductor combined with the talent of the musicians and the choral singers made for a magical evening. Thank you, Goldstar, for making...continued

Fabulous experience! The Seattle Symphony is changing with the times. It is making an effort to appeal to younger generations by their more casual format- especially conductor interaction with the audience. They also had two guest string...continued

attended Seattle Symphony: Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony on Apr 25 2010

This was a terrific performance. The first half of the program had to be changed because the solo cellist was unable to get to the US from Europe due to the volcano in Iceland. The guest conductor was also different for the same reason....continued

attended Seattle Symphony Pops with Marvin Hamlisch: A Tribute to Stephen Sondheim on Feb 19 2010

Felt the whole thing was a bit short, but fun nonetheless.

Hamlisch told some entertaining stories behind the songs. The vocal performances were great.

attended The Movie Music of John Williams Played by the Seattle Symphony on Jun 24 2015

Nice night out in the park. The audio quality of the symphony isn't as nice as indoors. Also would have been much better had they projected movie scenes behing the symphony.
