Reviews of SF Sketchfest

SF Sketchfest was founded in 2001 by David Owen, Cole Stratton and Janet Varney as a way to showcase the talents of six Bay Area sketch comedy groups: The Fresh Robots, Kasper Hauser, The Meehan Brothers, Please Leave the Bronx, Totally False People and White Noise Radio Theatre. The festival debuted in January of 2002 at the Shelton Theatre in downtown San Francisco and has grown rapidly into a nationally recognized comedy festival that mixes national headliners, local favorites and the best up-and-coming groups from throughout North America for a month of sketch, improv, stand-up and alternative comedy. A favorite with audiences, critics, and performers alike, the festival has grown substantially to become a highly anticipated artistic showcase that consistently delivers top quality comedic performances, tributes and panel discussions. To learn about past participants, visit the Past Festivals page.

Audiences have overwhelmingly responded to SF Sketchfest’s diverse programming which has featured performers from every major North American television comedy smash of the last 25 years including “Saturday Night Live,” “The Kids in the Hall,” “Mr. Show,” “Arrested Development,” “VEEP,” “The Upright Citizens Brigade,” “The State,” “Mystery Science Theatre 3000,” “Strangers With Candy,” “Key & Peele,” “The Simpsons,” “The Daily Show” and more. SF Sketchfest offers its audiences the rare opportunity to see their favorite performers in intimate live performances and discussions.

Very funny. Completely revolutionary. Great to see the roots of comedy that inspired a whole new vocabulary for film makers.

attended SF Sketchfest Threesome: Reggie Conquest, Simon Gibson & Irene Tu on Jan 16 2020

Irene Tu was pretty funny but the other 2 comedians weren't very good. I was disappointed that their humor wasn't especially clever or topical. We've been to Punchline several times before & the comediens were much better. Had good seats with...continued

I saw THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING......when it came out 50 years ago, and it holds up well as a relevant commentary today. It is timeless as Alan Arkin.

attended Dave Barry With Kevin Pollak: SF Sketchfest Comedy Writing Award on Jan 09 2016

Both Barry and Pollak are very funny, and riffed back and forth on many subjects, from working in TV, the movies, writing, and growing up. His humor comes from his mom, so he gave examples of her humor. All in all, a good person, and a...continued

attended SF Sketchfest: Shouting at the Screen Featuring Wyatt Cenac and Donwill on Jan 14 2017

Mashup between a comedy club and movie house, seats were comfy and table service for drinks was convenient. Glad to see some of the Sketchfest events on Goldstar, since I wouldn't have gone to this one otherwise.

attended Double Bill: Bill Irwin & Bill Frisell Perform Songs & Scenes from Vaudeville on Jan 27 2017

Excellent seats.
To me, Bill Irwin preforms wondrously in any and all performances. This show was a series of mostly humorous sketches. Possibly newly created by Irwin, because they weren't common old vaudeville routines. Bill Frisell seemed to...continued

It is surreal to hear Alan speak of his years in comedy at the Castro theater. The theater itself is gorgeous and Alan was a classic character as seen in Little Miss Sunshine.

Billy Crystal? An 8 trapped in the body/mind of a 10.
Alan Zeibel? A huge talent and a solid 7 on stage.
The interviewer, from Sketchfest, who insisted on asking dumb, meaningless, and uninteresting questions? A great big zero.

Why would you...continued
