Maybe I was expecting too much. The music is good (I went because already know and love Fela and Femi's music) and the dancing very energetic, but the story - while about an important figure - is quite simple and so needed to be told in a much...continued

So much fun should be illegal. Superbly produced, acted, danced, etc., etc. "Fela" even involved the audience at one point having everybody stand up and dance. The only caveat is that sometimes his African accent was hard to understand, and the...continued

This musical is phenomenal! High energy singing, dancing, and a great afro-latin jazz band playing the music. The actor who portrays Fela, is sensational! You do not want to miss this show! There is a small amount of racy language, so I would not...continued

First act is incredible, second act is a kind of dream scene with lots of special effects and dancing (very good), but short on story. All in all it was very good.

AMAZING! The actor portraying Fela was INCREDIBLE! You deserved a Tony for that performance! LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this musical. If you want to have a great time, go see Fela at the Ahmanson! You won't regret it. By the way, Goldstar, I LOVED my...continued

It was nearly impossible to understand Fela and follow what he was saying.

A lot of talent on stage, but the direction during a lot of it seemed rather meandering and unfocused, and at times performers were allowed to be a little too indulgent. I thought a good half hour could have been cut.

Top notch Broadway comes to L.A.! This show had the most kick-ass musicians and dancers busting out Fela Kuti's legendery Afro-funk jams and some beautiful original pieces. Such an amazingly gifted cast. I alternately wanted to boogie and got...continued

There was so much activity on stage, one does not know where to look, for fear of missing something. the live band was great, the dancing (rhythmic), singing (blended) performers are energetically awesome. Fela, the storyteller is amazing....continued

Top reasons we loved it: Rousing music, spectacular dance (almost superhuman!), the collage experience which depicts a musician finding his mission in life to be an instrument of and to his people--and the voice of Melanie Marshall as Funmilayo...continued

Amazing energy and dancing. Knew of his music, but not so much of his struggles, and the brutal Nigerian politics that plagued Fela.

I was disappointed in this. I thought there were would be more singing and less talking. I was glad that a lot of the dialog was on the screen. Others around me seemed to be enjoying this, so I guess I was in the minority.
