Total torture. Very minor work that is way too long as well.

Catastrophy
Worst opera I have seen in my life
I think that it is time to change the opera director.
We need some new blood and programs

Very enjoyable, mild comic opera. Excellent cast and production, good orchestra seats. Needed the projected titles though, even if it was in English.

Great music, fabulous singers and orchestra. The production was fresh and lively, on a level with Long Beach Opera (the ultimate around here), not the tired warhorse material frequently cranked out by LA Opera. The most listener-friendly Britten...continued

It was a charming simple story, but after awhile the charm wears off. Part of our problem was reading the super titles from so far back. Somehow it didn't seem like a "real" opera.

Dull, uninspired kitsch. We left during intermission. I hate to see LA Opera putting such crap on the stage.

Excellent production. Good singing, acting and lots of energy. I enjoyed the "chamber opera" scale of it -- a nice change from the "grand" productions of most staged operas. Alek's voice has yet to grow, but it carries well and he's a convincing...continued

Charming scenery and costumes, but the direction and much of the acting was alarmingly amateurish. Lots of generalized play-acting and goofy facial expressions, lacking in playing objectives or an understanding of the social classes and personal...continued

It was not very melodic and lacked good arias. Also, some voices did not carry and although it was in English, I had to rely on subtitles as it was difficlut to understand the words. Not really very funny, just a tad.

I knew nothing about this opera, but it was great - interesting social and political commentary underlying everything. And it's pretty funny.

The seats were fabulous.

Not the strongest outing from LA Opera ever.... The first half was crackling & delightful, but the 2nd half fell flat. Plot got a little movie-of-the-weekish....

I'll listen tonight on KUSC. The "antics" were fun and the staging was terrific. I was waiting for a melodic aria and didn't find one; however, the cast was wonderful.

Light opera, not very melodic, but the comedy moves along with good acting. Don't miss it if only to see Richard Bernstein!
