I thought Long Day's Journey into Night was grand. I had seen this about ten yrs ago with Vanessa Redgrave and Brian Denehy and I thought this production was just as good.

A good production of an iconic play. A great female lead.

Great play; good direction and staging; good--but not always great--acting: some gave a little too much caricature, not enough of the realism for which the playwright is famous.

I have seen this play before on stage and have also seen the movie. In both cases, family members took turns savaging one another so viciously that the viewer is left wrung out and exhausted. This production was also exhausting, not from riveting...continued

1. Hugely depressing (not the play or players' fault - and I was warned!) - but did not need to be tedious, as it was.
2. First play I've ever been to where players stumbled on lines! Not terrible, but noticeable. I was surprised at Arena...continued

Definitely a worthwhile experience! Fine acting draws the audience into their own experiences as well as the action on stage. Three hours well spent. Glad I went.

Wonderful play and beautiful production -- well worth seeing. The acting is not all of the same high caliber, but all the actors are at least very good and three beyond reproach

Great play. As it progressed from innuendo to revelation, the characters progressed from their caricatures of each other to complex fully developed people. In the play, these people are trapped in patterns that they could recognize in themselves...continued

The play felt like a long day, no wait, three days. The actors tried but I didn't like either the production or the play.

This is one of my favorite plays, so if it weren't well-produced, I would really let them have it! The production is perfect...spare...just enough scenery to put you in the time and place, but not enough to distract you from the incredible writing...continued

A wonderful production with four strong actors. The emotion really comes through as the story unfolds and the pieces fit together. I was a bit distracted by the set, as there are large windows looking outside over fog, even when the script says...continued

The play held my attention and did not seem like three hours, including one intermission. The actress who played Mary was phenomenal -- worth the price of the ticket! The others were fine, but do not stand out in my mind as "great performances."

The play was a bit long and repetitious. The role played by the parents was very good while those played by the two sons was mediocre at best.

This production was cut from about 4 hours to under 3. LOTS of dialogue. Although I had not seen it in 30 years, I still found this a powerful play and accurate depiction of addiction in a dysfunctional family. I agree with the review in the Post...continued

Very well acted - it's an emotionally wringing play, and the cast left it all on stage.

I always enjoy the Arena Stage. Being able to see this play at a discount made it even better. I had a great time. In addition, I was pleasantly surprised that my seat was in the 3rd row! Great seat! Thanks.

My wife and I enjoyed the performance. The acting was excellent, especially the female lead.

Production was fine but the plot/story is depressing and part way through I just wanted to say I got the point...drugs and alcohol devastate people.
