Sophie Hawkins sings a credible Janis Joplin. She's got the tough part of Janis down more so than the vulnerable part. I think it was a mistake to open with 'Piece of My Heart' before the audience has even warmed up to Ms. Hawkins version of...continued

Fantastic! Sophie B. Hawkins was riveting as Janis, and I loved the format. Atmosphere, clothing, music was authentic and you really felt like you were in her head and life. Obviously an extremely sad ending but just fascinating. I'm from that...continued

I was only 13 years old when Janis Joplin joined the 27 Club – I didn’t really know her music all that well, just the songs that made the Top 40 of the day, but I knew her on a deeper level because I was also a fairly plain awkward girl that...continued

This is the 3rd or 4th play I've seen at the Macha Theatre and I've enjoyed each one but this was the best! Hawkins did an inspired take on Joplin although I worry what her own voice is like after singing a la Joplin! Hawkins brought out...continued

Wow. Hawkins is Joplin! There is nothing more I can say. There is more than one play out right now about Joplin's life. I've seen two and definitely preferred this one.

Sophie B. Hawkins is truly remarkable in her depiction of Janis Joplin. Her non stop energy and high octance singing raises the level of the evening. The play is not particularly involving, nor do we leave feeling that we understand JJ better, but...continued

This was truly fantastic. I couldn't believe how well she was channeling Janice, and the singing performance was out of this world. Cannot recommend highly enough!

Sophie B. Hawkins does an amazing Janis Joplin. The production is very well done and the music is really terrific. Janis Joplin's life was quite a journey - and her music was so unique. This is definitely worth seeing.

Sophie B. Hawkins and band are terrific! The music is authentic, entertaining, enjoyable.
Sophie's voice is the star of the show.

I do remember Janis drinking the Southern Comfort from a teacup during her concert.

Sophie was greta. We enjoyed the show. Theatre is small with good views although some posts in back hinder view a little in some seats. Management a little disorganized as crowd had to stand in lobby until doors were opened 5 minutes after stated...continued

It was a great show. It captured the feeling of the times. The singing was fantastic and the dance numbers were good. Some of the dialogue was a little vague, but overall I really liked the show. The theater is very small and the seats were...continued

Sophie B. Hawkins did a great job of portraying the late Janis Joplin! The back up band was superb same with the supporting cast.

However, the only one who had a microphone was Sophie. The supporting players had to "project" their voices so...continued

The experience was like revisiting San Francisco in 1966, the club in North Beach with Janis and the Holding Co. Wonderful !!!!! Beautifully performed. Very reminiscent of the time. Thank you.

Sophie B. Hawkins and the musicians were so fabulous that they brought the rating of the other parts of this production up (hence the four stars), which were not-so-fabulous
