Fine cast, excellent stage design and direction, but not much of a story to chew on. Emotionally raw and extremely shallow youth arrives at sharp-minded grandmother's New York City apartmet; a little culture clash humor; a final confession of...continued

A nicely drawn picture of a relationship between grandmother and grandson, sensitive to the challenges facing both characters. The story the relationship revolved around was, however, not very compelling, I felt, or not adequately fleshed out....continued

It grappled with very interesting themes, aging, finding adult identity and dealing with loss. The acting was of a high caliber, however the play would have benefited by being 15 minutes shorter as it is written or some themes alluded to should have...continued

This is the second time I've seen a production at the ACT through Goldstar. The seats always seem to be under the balcony overhang, so acoustics aren't so great. That said, we really enjoyed this poignant production. Quality stuff at the ACT.

A.C.T. productions are ALWAYS well-done. 4000 MILES is excellent! An engaging script, a could-not-be-more-perfectly-cast group of actors, and a phenomenal experience. We had Red Velvet orchestra tickets. That made it even better! The box...continued

Expectation was high as had read NY reviews but we found it lacked any real development of the 2 main characters and there wasn't much else. The acting was good but the grandmother didn't really let us know why she was a communist or why that had...continued

It was quite funny. Unlike another review, we heard every word from the back row in the mezzanine. It was the perfect length of time with no intermission. Very enjoyable show.

This is a lovely, wise, heartfelt play with spot-on peformances by four perfectly cast actors.

Funny, entertaining and true-to-life, with characters you'll recognize right away. Rarely can you see theater so honest and moving without melodrama.

A coming of age and acknowledgement of responsibility both for the young man and his grandmother. Terrific acting, great set and good directing.

I didn't like anything about the play. I hate giving bad reviews but I don't understand all the buzz about this play. Time magazine is not relevant. I have pretty low standards but this play personally didn't work for me. The characters were...continued

I attended a Wednesday matinee performance of this Amy Herzog play, and I would recommend it to others. Good acting all around, but, as Grandma Vera, Susan Blommaert's portrayal was wonderful. The essence of the characters is captured quickly in...continued

Very difficult to hear the actors. The script was OK, not scintillating. I enjoyed the actress who played the grandmother.

I thought it was entertaining, funny, and moving -- occasional tearful moments caught me by surprise. The distances between the characters seemed at times unbridgeable (literally played out on stage with characters standing very far from each...continued

Acoustics in the "cheap, nose-bleed seats" i.e. the Goldstar section, were pretty poor. I missed a number of lines, and, no, I'm not hard-of-hearing. The character, Amanda, was almost completely inaudible, with her high-pitched, rapid, Valley...continued

I recommend it. Very interesting relationship between a roughly 22 yr old wannabe-hippie and his grandmother over 3 weeks in her NYC apartment. The play hints at topics but takes its sweet time to reveal them, adding to your sense of just being a...continued

Although the set was beautiful, the actors were no better than what I would expect from community theater. They were competent but there was a lack of depth in their portrayals. The play was also a problem. Go if you want to see some light fluff...continued
