Read the play last year and was anxious to see it played out. It was outstanding and one of the best performances I've seen at the rep.

1959 portion of the show dragged and there was much too much conversation about "ice cream" and not enough about why the family was moving or about the death of their son.

2009 portion was very entertaining.

This was an intersting piece about race relations in regards to desegregation of neighborhoods as seen in the fifties and the OOs. It was overly dramatic with some of the female characters in the fifties being charactures and not well drawn out. ...continued

I thought the cast did a great job and it was totally an enjoyable experience!

Well-acted but a bit of a jumble in the second act. The second half of the play tries to push the boundaries of comfort and taste regarding race, gender, sex and class, yet is so obvious and ham-handed that the potential offensiveness fizzles and...continued

The subject matter is as timely today as it was in 1959.

The acting was great! The script, less so. The first act had a lot to say, and did it well. I felt like the second act completely lost focus as to what it was trying to say.

A very thought provoking evening that hopefully encourages self reflection and change. Uncomfortable truths are revealed by the characters while the audience around me sometimes cringed at the brutal honesty that came through. Presented by a...continued

Great show and terrific casting. One thing I don't care about with the Lyceum, and not most other venues: they tend to give Goldstar crappy back of the theater tickets, even when it's not that full.

While we very much enjoyed the first act, we were sad to see the second act devolve into theatrical screaming. Overall the actin g was good, but were once again subjected to what must be Lyceum' s greatest drawback: unsophisticated audience...continued

Excellent play. Although it is about neighborhoods and real estate it is a reflection of America in the last 50 years. The cast was outstanding. Each one playing two different characters a half century apart. Beautiful set. Nimbly directed. Pay...continued

first act slow, little development. Second act excrutiatingly painfull with what is supposedly to be interesting tip-toeing verbalization around issues of race. A dated play in need of pruning and tighter direction. The cast was professional...continued

Review from Deborah G.

This play was advertised as a comedy but it wasn't very funny. It was thought-provoking about the subject of racism, but was more of a drama than a comedy. So, if you're looking for a comedy, this is not it.

Excellent script well acted by a highly capable cast that presents a thought provoking and creative take on issues that we must still face every day, at school, in the workplace, even at the grocery. Parts of it made me squirm, and that's a good...continued

OK, had its moments, but would not recommend to friends.
Can't quite believe it won all those awards... seemed like a high school play.
