Review from Mark Marcus

'American Buffalo' at the Geffen Theatre is a great production of David Mamet's nearly 40 year old play. The 3 actors were excellent. The fantastic junk store set is practically a 4th actor.

Despite growing up in Chicago, in general, Mamet is not one of our favorite playwrights as we sometimes find him too vulgar. Despite that concern, must admit that AMERICAN BUFFALO is superbly written and worthy of its stature in theater history....continued

Excellent performances by three five-star actors. And all done on a set that is wonderously done--we see a buy-and-sell junk shop full to over-flowing with every kind of thing imaginable. Some good things, some tacky. Add to this the fact that...continued

Great overall performance of a classic. Nice set design. An intimate venue like the Geffen is perfect for this piece.

This was a stellar production in all aspects. The set was marvelous, the lighting effective and the acting was superlative. It was fast paced and engaging from start to finish.

I don't think this particular Mamet play is for me, but the production and acting were top notch.

This classic holds up under the test of time. Five stars and five reasons you should see this play: The play, three outstanding performances, and one of the wildest, most elaborate sets ever designed.

First act was a bit monotonous but the second act was more explosive with the angst of dissatisfaction with their lives. Very well acted but not everybody's type of play.

Great production! Story held up well - relevant for today. We stayed for the discussion after the play and it added another dimension to the experience.

Mamet is famous for his dialogue, for the rhythms of natural speech. True enough, but the characters in this play are of no interest. They are the people you move away from when you're near them in a tavern.

We left at the interval.

I enjoyed the actors performances and thought the overall production value was great. However, the story was a little on the thin side when it came to plot.

It was an OK show, acting wonderful, the script so, so. The real problem was getting to and from the theatre. The working on the 405 frwy caused frustration and anger at the traffic back up. A warning needs to be put out by you or the Geffen to...continued

I had never seen this play nor the filmed version and hadn't read any reviews. So, I really had no idea what it was about. My friends, however, had seen one or both decades ago, but couldn't remember the storyline. They also had no...continued

The acting, the staging and the production design were excellent. The play itself was very disturbing but not in a stimulating, provocative way. Perhaps it is because so many of my client/patients are like these characters.

Wonderful play, excellent actor’s work!
David Mamet is the number one playwright despite the disgraceful article in LA Times.
(It is such a shame what the liberal media is SO BIAS).
I recommend this production to my friends and family and...continued
