Quite boring. Twain provides so much rich material-only so little of it was used. Also any actor (even a good one) needs a director. The fact that this production was self-directed was very obvious.

The best way to describe the show is being weirdly delicious. It is funny, sad, and poignant. Val Kilmer does an excellent job of keeping you entertained, and educating you about the life of Mark Twain. Definitely recommend it.

This performance was wonderful. Don't know how long it will be at the Douglas but it does go 'on the road.' Highly recommend.

Val Kilmer as Mark Twain was awesome - I found myself thinking about the performance the rest of the day and the next day as well. It really felt like the real Mark Twain was in the room with you, but here and now in 2013. It was a fun, creative,...continued

Terrible! Made Twain an alcoholic, a buffoon etc. Contrived connection with the audience is annoying. Lots of things which happened after Twain died. All in all a really bad production and come down for a good actor. See Holbrook's Twain and...continued

Stellar performance. Raises the standard for Twain portrayal above Hal Holbrook's. Kilmer has such fun with the role, inserting contemporary references and jokes completely in the original spirit. His interaction with audience members was...continued

What a fantastic experience from beginning to end!!! Val Kilmer interacted with the audience (dressed as Mark Twain) before the play actually began. This brought you right in!!! When the actual play began, one was already ready to learn more. ...continued

Masterful job of impersonation by Val Kilmer. He re-creates and re-invents a Mark Twain that manages to be both contemporary and true-to-his-historical-period at the same time.

This was a wonderful experience for a Mark twain enthusiast. Very much akin to the first time I saw Mark Twain Tonight. It was particularly fun to have "Twain" schmoozing in the audience before the show, and to have Val Kilmer Q and A after the...continued

Val Kilmer's acting was enjoyable and he brought Mark Twain home in his show. As some other reviews have indicated, the storytelling does seem to meander a bit. I took it as the natural occurrences of an older storyteller--ideas lead to other...continued

It was both surprising and endearing to see Val Kilmer interact with the audience. He did a nice job of sustaining the character of Samuel Clemens throughout the piece.

Quite a remarkable production considering Val Kilmer wrote and performed the program.
During the performance, he involved the audience. Especially liked the Q&A after the performance while his makeup was being removed.

The show was AMAZING! Val Kilmer is completely unrecognizable in face. voice, body movement, EVERYTHING. But geez Louise Goldstar, why do you always always always put me in the back row?

Val Kilmer is pompous, pretentious and beyond self indulgent in his portrayal of Mark Twain as a loser alcoholic. Where is Hal Holbrook when you need him? Complete waste of time!

Amazing performance by Mr. Kilmer. Soooo funny but also serious and thought-provoking at times. Perfect length of time. And the Q&A afterwards was cool. Highly recommend it!

The material used by the performer was okay, I saw better in the past. Val Kilmer was very good portraying the character of Mark Twain. It was entertaining. Love the Kirk Douglas theatre, but the parking was to far for the people with handicap needs.

Val Kilmer completely disappeared into the role of Mark Twain, creating the lovely illusion that we were spending an evening with the author and rascal Samuel Clemens. I could watch this over and over, with much laughter and some poignant moments...continued
