I would give it a FIVE as far as the play, the performance and music is concerned. Absolutely incredible and emotionally satisfying, but
my comp ticket was in B-1, right behind a pillar that shaved off one third of the stage. I could not lean...continued

We left at intermission. Musicians drowned out singers, whose voices were often screechy or nasal, and our seats were assigned in an end section while actors were directed to play to the front. Consequently, we could hardly understand a word...continued

I've been avoiding writing this review for the past several days. I'd heard about Chess: A Musical several years ago, but never had the chance to see it. Now that I have, I feel that I haven't been missing anything.

I need to say that the cast...continued

Could have been amazing with better actors. I wanted to leave during intermission but my partner told me that "One night in Bangkok" is coming up. When it did, I was done. The only one who sang really well was the actor who played Florence.

I enjoyed the show. Great songs and music. The sets were simple and used creatively. My only complaint is that I was seated to the right of the stage in the top row and when certain bright stage lights were used, they shined directly into my...continued

The first thing you should know is that this production is from the ArtsWest "Apprenticeship" program, which means they're all high school-aged kids with limited experience. Goldstar neglects to mention that in the description, which I find...continued

The show was okay, not my favorite. A few of the songs were nice but most didn't grab me as being memorable or even enjoyable. It was nice to have a live band playing though. Some of the singers had pretty good voices but others were not so...continued

This is a difficult show to pull off because it is all sung, not spoken, thus lyrics to all songs must be crystal clear for the audience to completely "get it." Unfortunately, not all the singers in this production are equally able to do this. As...continued

Had great expectations, but was sadly disappointed. The arbitrator stood out with a strong voice and role. The main actors in my mind, did not fit their respective roles. Not wanting to stereotype an actor into a limited choice of...continued

Excellent overall direction and staging. Female leads were particularly talented as vocalists and actors. Male leads lacked in both categories with serious intonation, phrasing, and interpretation problems. Very little effective musical direction.

It's too late for this review to help future attendees because the remaining two performances are sold out. Full disclosure: I love the musical "Chess" and have seen/heard many productions. Chelsea Gilpin is a STAR. Her Florence was near perfect,...continued

Being very familiar with this production from years ago, I booked with high expectations, only to learn on the day of the show that it was an "ArtsWest Apprenticeship" program production (young/teen actors). Nevertheless, it turned out...continued

I was totally wowed by the young talent in this production! The staging, too, was innovative and effective. For fans of this rarely-staged musical, I highly recommend this opportunity to see it live.

One of the worst shows I've ever seen. Character Florence was the only one with a good voice. Our seats were on the side and the actors never rotated but faced the center audience the whole time. Small theater yet difficult to understand the...continued

I would have given this show more stars if I felt it had been represented better in the description on Goldstar. Having seen other shows at ArtsWest, I came in with the expectation of seeing a gripping, adult show performed by adult actors,...continued

It was my first time to your theater and it is a charming venue: very intimate. i was seated in the section to the right of the door. Some of the production took place forward of my viewing range. There was a vent directly over my seat which...continued

Lover the music and lyrics. Tim Rice did an excellent job. Most of the actors were very good. The sound system for the seats on the side is not all that great. It was hard to hear some of the musical numbers. The tall blonde actress was fantastic....continued

The play was fun and got progressively better as it went on. I don't know if I'll use Goldstar anymore though as the three times I've bought, our seats have been the worst in the house. I think going less often and buying tickets w/the regular...continued

We really enjoyed "Chess". The whole cast of ArtsWest Apprentices were very professional, the show had a clever plot, great music composed by the guys of ABBA and Tim Rice, fun costumes and amazing choreography! We sat close to the band and they...continued
