Back for its 26th year, the Annual Jazz & Tap Dance Festival fills the auditorium with energy and soul as area dance companies showcase their newest creations in jazz, tap and hip-hop. The dance review features the premiere of Chambermaid Swing
, which reaches back to ragtime in a fun piece about maids on holiday. Another performance showcases the driving, ritualistic African drum heritage. Center Stage's Michael Hibbs, recent winner of the Fairfax County Dance Coalition's dance scholarship, demonstrates his Bill "Bojangles" Robinson tap dance expertise. The Encore Performers deliver a Rockette-style musical theater piece, while Capital Movement works the crowd into a frenzy with hip hop. The only jazz dance festival in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, this is a rare opportunity to witness a large-scale tribute to American's indigenous dance form.
