Taking Chance: A Special Memorial Day Event
In April of 2004, casualties were mounting in far-off Iraq. In the meantime, at Quantico, the choices being made were focused on increasing troop strength or only replacing the casualties. Lt. Col. Michael Strobl (the guest at this special event) was analyzing and crunching the numbers. After being stung by his superior officer's rejection of his recommendation because he lacked recent combat experience, Lt. Strobl volunteers for a specific escort duty ... accompanying the remains of Pfc Chance Phelps, deployed but killed in Iraq at the age of 19 on Good Friday, April 9, 2004. From Dover to Philadelphia by hearse, from there to Minneapolis and on to Billings, Montana by plane, and then by car to Pfc Phelps' Wyoming home -- person after person pays their respects. Kind words, small gifts, and gratitude are given Strobl to deliver to The Phelps Family while on this soul-searching journey. A winner of both the Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild awards for Taking Chance, Kevin Bacon delivers a riveting yet poignant performance. Don't miss this free offering and special post-screening question and answer session at Arlington's Regent Theatre on Memorial Day 2018!
