This is definitely not a show that will appeal to all people. As written, the Three Penny Opera is set about 1840 and plot really shows a corrupt society in the UK and some pretty foul individuals in that society. On top of the that, music is pretty dissonant, coming from the Germany of the late 1920s, though there are some great songs like Mack the Knife.
This production is interesting, in that it is set sometime in the London of near future and everything (dialogue and song lyrics) has been updated. The idea here is to make the show somewhat shocking (F-word included) for today's audience and not make it a museum piece (i.e., same as a production 70 years ago).
The production is definitely good, with a very good cast, especially women who plays Jenny (several great songs, well done).
This is a production that is well worth seeing, though I'll give it a buyer beware rating -- it is not your standard sort of musical theatre show at all and really does have a harsh, grimy plot with music to match.
