Violinist Baiba Skride & Conductor Thomas Sondergard in ASO Debuts
A pair of classical music's most exciting young talents take the stage with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra for the first time as part of the worldwide tribute to British composer Benjamin Britten. Thomas Sondergard's recent debut as the principal conductor of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales was widely hailed, and now the Dane wields the baton for a concert featuring exciting Latvian violinist Baiba Skride. Already an accomplished recording artist and recitalist, Skride's debut with the ASO features Tchaikovsky's notoriously difficult Violin Concerto. The ASO also performs Shostakovich's Fifth Symphony and Arvo Pärt's Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten, honoring the 100th anniversary of his birth.
