$33.05 - $76.40*
$71 - $95
Rising tenor Noah Stewart stars in this passionate production of one of the most beautifully written operas of all time. Faust tells the story of a forlorn philosopher who regains his youth by making a dubious deal with the devil. Gounod's opera in five acts adapts Goethe's story of Faust's downfall, and that of the fair Marguerite, who becomes an innocent pawn in Mephistopheles' plan. Known for its famed "Jewel Song," the opera's been captivating audiences worldwide since its Paris premiere in 1859. It's performed here in French with projected English translation, conducted by Arthur Fagen. Soprano Mary Dunleavy, who can be seen singing the role of Marguerite in a scene in Steven Spielberg's Oscar-nominated film Lincoln, costars along with Russian bass Alexander Vinogradov. The Harlem-born Stewart was mentored by Leontyne Price, went on to graduate from Juilliard and was a San Francisco Opera Adler Fellow before joining the Metropolitan Opera roster in 2008 and appearing in a variety of roles with companies across the globe. He makes his Atlanta Opera debut here in the title role.
