Maple and Vine finds a thoroughly modern couple opting to eschew 21st-century society to return to simpler times. Katha and Ryu, a successful but disaffected duo living in New York City, meet a charismatic man from a community of re-enactors who live as though it's now (and forever) 1955. Deciding to trade their cell phones and sushi for cigarettes and Tupperware parties -- their wi-fi for hi-hi -- this couple soon discovers that it's not so easy to exist authentically in a world stunted by outdated gender, race and sexual attitudes. This well-reviewed comedy by Jordan Harrison offers a provocative look at what some people are willing to give up for a life of ignorant bliss. Learn More

I didn't know much about this play going in other than I knew it involved a gay couple. It ended up being a real surprise. One of the best plays I've seen in a long time! The characters were full-bodied and the subjects of love, life, faith and being gay were handled fantastically well. All of the actors, especially the mother, were believable and genuine. As the characters reveal more of their histories and motivations there are touching moments and some surprising revelations. Bravo!
