The Simpsons' Matt Groening & Cartoonist Lynda Barry
Of course the creator of Bart, Homer, Marge, Lisa and Maggie would be best buds with the mastermind behind Ernie Pook and Marlys Mullen. In fact, it was Matt Groening, creator and writer of The Simpsons and Futurama, who first published Lynda Barry's underground comic, Ernie Pook's Comeek, when the two were students at Evergreen College. That's where their friendship began, and what seems like a lifetime later, the creator of the longest-running scripted show in TV history is still besties with his "biggest inspiration." At Cal Performances' Zellerbach Hall in Berkeley, the duo reminisces about 40 years of friendship and creativity throughout their aptly-named show, The Friendship That Would Not Die, aided by a homey and hilarious slideshow of photos and comics. You'll get to ask your burning questions afterward at the post-talk Q&A.
