Humorous writing from playwrights in the forefront of playwriting in the East Bay. quickly and creatively put together in a foremat where new writers can show off their wares in a safe and fun environment.

Hit or miss is a great way to describe this almost-monthly event. But the energy is always high, and it's good fun to see new art in progress and support community creativity. And when the plays are good, it's a great plus.

Playground is such a wonderful coming together of the local theater community, and a chance to see and support art in the making. The shows are usually excellent, and although last night's was not the best I've seen, it was still loads of fun.

Some of the plays are good, and some are excellent, but all give you the rare opportunity to see art in process. And it's so much fun.

The pre-talk with Authors of the plays enlightened and endeared me to Lesli Zephyr--until we saw her play, which encouraged suicide as a lover's ploy. It was funny, but my friend who wants to kill himself loved it a bit too much. Naomi Newman's...continued

The talk be4 with 3 of the authors was great. However, the plays outdid expectations! Very brilliant, funny. Loved the homeless man vignette, and the last one, Damen?'s about Bob Cratchett 's family and Scrooge. Great actors as usual. Loved the...continued

Wonderful talk before the plays with authors. Joy Carlin moderates after Jim starts. Get an insight on plays. Mom's Ham, wonderfully evocative and funny re sibling rivalries, the Jello play also hilarious re expectations for cooking. Donner party...continued

Probably a 2.5 star event when it's all said and done. The concept is amazing! New writers, new scripts, professionally staged readings, but the execution is lacking. Scripts are generally weak, the staged reading had 1.5 hours of rehearsal the...continued

Brash and beautiful, dynamic and dystopic. Six short plays without interruption bringing something new and challenging without surcease. I loved it and the audience did too. These were the best of the best sorted from more than a hundred...continued

Simplistic and stupid. Not a one of the small pieces presented stands a 10% chance of becoming anything worth while.

I had never been to one of these performances until yesterday. I found all six plays to be very interesting. The concept is great.

A very innovative approach to theatre. I highly enjoyed the six short plays
written by local writers based upon a theme.

After a terrible wait to be allowed into the theater,we were fortunate to get seats. for a sold out show. The performances were excellent and the plays, each based on a Gershwin song, were creative and amusing.

I always like to support Playground. The musical entries are especially interesting. One suggestion: Last year the playwrights had to use songs by George and Ira Gershwin and this year it was the same thing. I think that's enough Gershwin - why...continued
