I had a hard time following what was happening with each scene...

Although the actors were giving it their all, there was some "over acting" if you will I felt and unfortunately, this play/musical just wasn't pulling me in.

It wasn't one of our favorite Sondheim shows but it was well done and gave you lots to think about - American imperialism, sovereignty of countries, etc. Didn't leave singing any of the songs. Decent seats and always a pleasure to be at the...continued

A difficult show to produce, but this is by far the best production I've seen live.

Unfortunately, one performer forgot a few verses of Chrysanthemum Tea (I can't fault him too harshly... it's got typical Sondheim minor differences that are easy...continued

Love this show and Sondheim's intent with it. The lead was brilliant as the Shogun, but inauthentic and squeaky (singing) in her primary role as narrator. Also, the concept of using masks for the Caucasian characters quickly twists our ability...continued

Pacific Overtures is one of my favorite Sondheim musicals, having seen the original production many years ago. The Lyric Stage production tried hard, but was somewhat disappointing. Not all the singers were strong, and it seemed that more...continued

No two productions of this show are at all alike, and the finale always gets updated to reflect present day. So worth seeing with this dedicated cast, no matter how many times you've seen it before.

the creativity of the staging was wonderful! i found the show hard to relate to emotionally because there was barely any character development - I couldn't tell you the name of any character...the romp through history was interesting and fun, but...continued

Wonderful direction of classic and difficult and complex Sondheim musical theater. Excellent on all counts. Very talented cast, clever use of limited space, in all a magical time.

If you like Sondheim, then you will enjoy his musical sound world. Having said that, the score was not memorable. The acting was very good and they made the most of this musical.

Pacific Overtures had an incredible minimalist set that conveyed different context. The use of props were poised and always added to the story line, never detracting from the plot. Moreover, the costume changes were seamless; it was easy to...continued

Surprisingly gripping story about the effects, both positive and negative, of Western contact on the people of Japan. I couldn't imagine how that would make for a good musical, but it's my friend's favorite, so I went, and I was very glad I didn't...continued

The direction, tech, performances, and particularly the costume design were outstanding, but the show itself leaves something to be desired. It's not one of Sondheim's best, but now I can say I've seen it done with a very high standard of...continued

Tickets were really easy to buy on line and collect at the box office.

The play was fantastic. It was an amazing production for a small theater.

Will use goldstar again to get tickets.

We saw Pacific Overtures at a Saturday matinee and all four of us were enthralled by it. The whole cast was wonderful, but I'll single out two excellent performances. Lisa Yuen was entirely engaging, projecting charm, wit, enthusiasm, or enui as...continued
