In the tradition of As Good As It Gets and About a Boy, The Power of Duff -- a new play staged by The Huntington Theatre Company -- tells the story of a man who is lost but then, thanks to a series of unexpected epiphanies, finds a new path back to happiness. Charlie Duff is a burnt-out local newscaster who, in a moment of grief after the loss of his father, offers a prayer at the end of his nightly broadcast. Soon this "one-time" addition becomes a trademark with Charlie offering a new prayer to conclude each program. But even as his prayers inspire millions, a still-doubtful Charlie struggles to reconnect with his alienated family. The Huntington's artistic director Peter DuBois helms this large-hearted work from Stephen Belber, a writer whose work ranges from Broadway (Match) to primetime TV (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit).
