Israel's Batsheva Dance Company Performs Signature Piece: Max
The Israeli contemporary dance company Batsheva is famed for its fearless full-bodied performances and innovative movement language developed by its artistic director Ohad Naharin. Now, this international sensation out of Tel Aviv brings Naharin's signature piece to Chicago. Considered less theatrical than many of his other works, the ten-person Max explores the juxtaposition of bodies in motion and at rest, alone and together, in a powerful examination of the pains and pleasures of being alive. Set to an original score by Maxim Waratt, the dance features Naharin's "Gaga" technique -- named after a baby's first words -- geared toward discovering adventurous new ways to move the body.
