Bella Voce spans four centuries with Cristobal Morales’s Missa pro Defunctis (1544), a grand setting composed in Rome which found favor in his native Spain and the cathedrals of Guatemala, Peru, and Mexico; and two works by Herbert Howells: Requiem (1936), a highly personal expression of terrible loss following the death of his young son; and Take Him, Earth, for Cherishing (1963), a musical response to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
