Che Malambo: Argentine Dance Troupe Makes U.S. Debut
Likened to a Latino-flavored Stomp, this drum and dance-fueled spectacular brings the traditional art of the Argentinian gaucho to the stage in a barefoot and boot-stomping display of amazing artistry and precision. This 14-member all-male troupe makes its North American debut with this performance, choreographed by the award-winning Gilles Brinas. It's an entrancing display of pure rhythm fueled by the beat of the traditional drum known as the bombo and the bola, thin ropes with two or more stones attached at the end, which the dancers whip around with unbelievable accuracy. Che Malambo appears as part of Chicago Tap's ninth annual Global Rhythms event, and welcomes the Mexican Dance Ensemble and Ensemble Español as their special guests for one performance each.
