The Maltese Falcon: Classic Detective Tale Takes to the Stage
Most famous for its 1941 film adaptation -- directed by John Huston and starring Humphrey Bogart -- The Maltese Falcon was originally a detective novel written in 1930 by Dashiell Hammett. Now the Butterfield 8 Theatre Company offers audiences a stage adaptation of the classic noir tale. A story of three crooks competing to obtain a jewel-encrusted falcon statuette unfolds after the gruff and gritty Sam Spade, an independent and hardboiled private detective, is hired by an enigmatic femme fatale to find her missing sister. Considered one of the greatest films of all time, Helen Borgers' stage adaptation, as authorized by the estate of Dashiell Hammett, aims to capture all the mystery and intrigue that has made The Maltese Falcon such an enduring and beloved story.
