A Night with Dame Edna
opened in Miami in 2002, and American audiences have been hysterical with laughter ever since! The New York Post raves, “Wickedly hilarious. If I were you I wouldn’t miss it for worlds.” And Peter Marks from The Washington Post exclaims, “I don’t want to go home! Please, don’t make me leave!”
The Dame says: “It’s not enough to be a star on Broadway. I want to get out there where real Americans live. When you see me in Orange County, possums, you will think I’ve lived there all my life because it’s my business to know you intimately. I tailor my show to my audience. I pay them that lovely compliment. After all, the people of Orange County are paying me the compliment of coming. The least I can do is to give them a personalized evening’s entertainment specially made for them, something that they will never forget.”A Night with Dame Edna
evolved from her wildly successful 1999/2000 Broadway Season, Dame Edna: The Royal Tour, which received a Special Tony Award for a Live Theatrical Event, as well as a Drama Desk Award and an Outer Critics Circle Special Achievement Award. Additionally, audiences across the U.S. voted her their favorite touring performer and, by popular vote, she was honored with a National Broadway Award.
Created by Australian actor Barry Humphries, Dame Edna is a national icon in her native Australia, as well as a housewife, talk show host, advisor to British royalty, investigative journalist, guru, icon and legend. She has authored Dame Edna’s Coffee Table Book, Dame Edna’s Bedside Companion and her autobiography, My Gorgeous Life.
Her television credits include the recent recurring role on Ally McBeal, two roundly praised U.K. specials (An Audience with Dame Edna, Another Audience with Dame Edna), along with her talk shows, The Dame Edna Experience and Dame Edna’s Neighborhood Watch, as well as appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Hollywood Squares.
As Dame Edna personally promises, “You won’t just smile at my show, possums, you will cry with laughter. Remember I stretch those laugh muscles no other show can reach!”
