Pacific Symphony: Chopin, Strauss and Mozart
$19.50 - $54.50*
$39 - $109
Pianist Yulianna Avdeeva is the soloist as the Pacific Symphony plays Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1 in a concert that also features works by Richard Strauss and Mozart. Chopin wrote this concerto to showcase his own virtuosity on the keys, and ever since then, it's earned a reputation as a showcase for the master pianist's technique. It's a perfect fit for Avdeeva, who was born in Moscow and took first place in the 16th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, becoming the first woman to win the top prize since 1965. You'll also hear Strauss' monumental tone poem Ein Heldenleben (A Hero's Life), an autobiographical work whose title has been taken as either self-deprecating or completely sincere, and Mozart's overture from his opera The Abduction From the Seraglio. Carl St. Clair conducts.
