The musical score to the movie "Singin' In The Rain" is amazing in so many ways -- rich and full, light and funny, while at the same time having the complex elements of musical theatre song styles brilliantly merged with traditional classical symphonic orchestrations. Since seeing a movie is primarily a visual experience, the casual movie watcher usually doesn't appreciate the many tone colors accompanying any singing and the subtle moods created by the underscore music. That is, not until you hear it all performed LIVE by the Pacific Symphony playing along with the original sound track. Then and only then can the listener truly appreciate the often unappreciated enhancements that a lush musical score adds to the experience of seeing (and hearing) a world-class movie musical. As a professional musician myself I can appreciate and applaud the countless hundreds of hours of transcribing and orchestrating the original musical score, and the Pacific Symphony under the masterful direction of Pops Conductor Richard Kaufman did an absolutely superb job of rendering a faithful and inspiring LIVE performance element to a true movie classic. Congratulations to every musician, orchestrator and arranger for their contribution to a truly magnificent movie musical experience. If you haven't seen or heard the collaboration of live orchestral music to a movie you MUST treat yourself to such a production. You don't have to be a musician or singer to appreciate it -- just go and enjoy it. I guarantee you'll be as moved and inspired as we were. Try it -- you'll like it!!
