Cinderella: Period Ensemble Performs Rossini's Timeless Opera
Rossini's clever interpretation of the Cinderella story comes to life in this Boston Opera Collaborative production in partnership with period orchestra Grand Harmonie. Based on the beloved fairy tale, this comic opera tells the story of a compassionate young lady who longs to escape her dreary life under the control of her arrogant, wicked stepsisters Clorinda and Tisbe. First performed in Rome in 1817, Cinderella features some of Rossini's most exciting writing for solo voice and ensembles. Boston Opera Collaborative Artistic Director Andrew Altenbach makes his company conducting debut leading Grand Harmonie, a period ensemble that performs the works of Classical and Romantic composers on the instruments for which they were written. Sung in Italian with English subtitles.
