In a dark and mysterious ballroom, thirty-four dancers waltz to gripping music by Ravel that projects a mood of impending doom. This dramatic work culminates with the appearance of a dark figure of Death, who claims the life of a woman in white as the horrified on-lookers swirl about her upraised body.
The Steadfast Tin Soldier
Based on the Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale, this is a sweet ballet about the innocent courtship between a tin soldier and a paper-doll ballerina. A poignant story of unrequited love.
Tschaikovsky Pas de Deux
A thrilling duet, Tschaikovsky Pas de Deux_ is set to unused music from Swan Lake_ that Balanchine acquired from the Bolshoi Theatre’s archives. Less than 10 minutes long, this tour de force ballet, performed around the world, is both challenging and enchanting.
