In an attempt to save their fading relationship, Queenie and her lover Burrs decide to throw the party to end all parties. But in The Wild Party, things quickly get out of hand when Queenie catches the eye of a new man and Burrs, a vaudeville clown with a violent streak, gets jealous. Based on a 1928 narrative poem, The Wild Party is full of the frenetic energy and fatalistic attitude of the prohibition era. Written by Andrew Lippa, who also wrote songs for The Addams Family and Big Fish Broadway musicals, the production lets you relive the excitement of the '20s, complete with plenty of gin and sin. It is an older theater building however it is very clean and the seating is comfortable. They have a small gift shop where the proceeds go toward the theater company and have a concession stand for intermission refreshments. The show was very creative and changes slightly each year. This year a local dance company participated with ballet, modern and tap and they threw "snowballs" into the audience (if you caught one, you received a special gift! I didn't catch one so I don't know what it was). They had to use a screen with a few prerecorded dialogues so two of the actors could make a quick costume change because they were playing multiple roles. I was impressed with the costume changes and the screen was creative but slightly took away from the flow of the scene. I wouldn't fault that artistic creativity though, just be open minded about it. The sound in the theater needs a little upgrading and there isn't a parking lot so finding parking is very difficult. I am glad I found discounted tickets because I think the regular pricing is slightly higher than I would spend on this semi professional performance. The acting however was great! Overall very good time and recommend to all ages. My husband and I really enjoyed it.
