Chicago Symphony Orchestra Performs Dvorak's New World Symphony at Ravinia
The youngest conductor among the major U.S. orchestras, the acclaimed Krzysztof Urbanski, makes his Ravinia debut to lead the Chicago Symphony Orchestra through works by Dvorak and Stravinsky. Inspired by slave spirituals and Native American melodies, Dvorak comes close to capturing the very essence of "America" in his Symphony No. 9, the iconic From the New World. Meanwhile, Stravinsky's Suite from The Firebird (1945 version) is the ultimate iteration of the Russian composer's most dazzling ballet score, recently used to open the Olympics at Sochi. Also making his debut is pianist Dejan Lazic whom The Guardian declared a "powerhouse performer whose playing combines strength with beauty." See event description for the full program.
