It's not every piece of music that brings people "to the point of ecstasy," but the word on the street in 1813 Vienna was Beethoven's Seventh Symphony did just that. And it's continued to ever since. In fact, its second movement is one of his greatest hits, still cropping up in countless film scores. It's no wonder the Seventh was Beethoven's own favorite. You can hear for yourself why that was during this concert under the stars at the Hollywood Bowl. Acclaimed conductor Thomas Adès will also lead the orchestra and "Iceland's Glenn Gould," Víkingur Ólafsson, in another Beethoven masterpiece, Piano Concerto No. 2. And Adès will kick off this special night of music by conducting his own one-movement symphony.
