The Pantages Theatre is celebrating 35 years of presenting memorable Broadway shows, and this week only, Goldstar members have exclusive access to some amazing anniversary deals on the latest hits.

The first Broadway show to play Hollywood’s famed Pantages was Bubbling Brown Sugar. The show opened on Tuesday, February 15, 1977.

Some of the highlights of the last 35 years at the Pantages include:

On September 13, 1983, Yul Brynner gave his 4000th live stage performance as the King of Siam in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s classic musical, The King and I on the stage of the Pantages Theatre. The night had additional poignancy, since Mr. Brynner had received the Academy Award for his film portrayal of the same role on that same Pantages stage two decades earlier.

The L.A. premiere of La Cage Aux Folles, starring Gene Barry, had a long run in 1984-85. It became the longest running Pantages show and broke a number of L.A. box office records.

In late 1999, the Pantages began work on a complete renovation.  When the doors re-opened to the public in September 2000, every visible square inch of the theatre had been transformed, and audiences were wowed to see the historic venue returned to the glamour and beauty that it had when it opened its doors on June 4, 1930.  _

Disney’s The Lion King _was the first show to play the newly-renovated Pantages, and it went on to run for over two years, breaking all previous attendance records.  It remains the longest-running show in Pantages history.

For most of 2003, Jason Alexander and Martin Short headlined the musical smash, The ProducersThe New Mel Brooks Musical

After having its L.A. premiere at the Pantages in 2005 for a limited six-week run, Wicked returned in February 2007 and stayed for two years, again breaking every standing box office record.
