Enjoy a pair of recent Spanish movies and take part in a discussion with actor Carlos Bardem and producer Alvaro Longoria. Part of American Cinematheque's 19th annual Spanish film showcase, this double feature includes Alacrán enamorado
(Scorpion in Love
) and Combustión
, both released earlier this year. Alacrán enamorado
follows boxer Julián (Álex González), a member of a neo-Nazi group led by the fanatical Solís (Javier Bardem, Carlos's brother). He tries to break free and begin a new life under the tutelage of trainer Carlomonte (Carlos Bardem), but Solis and his gang have other plans. Combustión
also stars González as a young man at a relationship crossroads. A box office hit with Spain's younger generation, the film explodes with speed and nervous energy, as drama and psychological tension mount with each scene. Both films are in Spanish with English subtitles.
