The play lacked passion and suspense. The case seemed to be walking through their parts. Moments that should have reeked with tension simply fell flat.

The set, staging, lighting and sound were very good for this show. The show was a bit slow and only a few of the actors performed well. Live theatre is always good.

I enjoyed the play; good writing and acting. The playhouse is very professional.

Written by Robert Emmet Sherwood

Directed by Laura James

Produced by Jill Jones

This insightful, Depression-era tale of frustrated lives and spiritual emptiness is set in a gas station and lunchroom along an Arizona highway. The daughter of the station’s owner longs to go to Paris to paint. She falls in love with Alan Squier, a failed author who stops at the restaurant on his way to California and proposes elopement. Everything changes when the escaped criminal Duke Mantee arrives and holds them hostage, painting the plight of the search for values in a decadent civilization.

Please note: There will be loud explosive special effects sounds in the 2nd act.

About the Ticket Supplier: Theatre West

Established in 1962, Theatre West is the oldest, continually running theater company in Los Angeles. Our productions have toured both sides of the Atlantic, including the Edinburgh and Dublin Festivals, New York City, Atlanta, South Carolina, Seattle, San Francisco, and throughout California. Over the years Theatre West's plays have transferred to Broadway (Spoon River Anthology, Aesop in Central Park) and to feature films (A Bronx Tale, Faithful).

The theater is located in Hollywood near the Cahuenga Pass and is home to both professional productions for adults and, since 1984, the family themed Storybook Theatre. No seats are further than 40 feet from the stage.
