Broadway's Hit Comedy Critic's Choice at Theatre Southwest
Ira Levin's comedy Critic's Choice tells the story of Parker Ballantine, a well-known drama critic whose wife writes an epically awful play. Ballantine tries to dissuade his wife from producing the play, but she persists, and when the play opens on Broadway, the fun really begins as the respected critic must decide whether or not to review the play honestly. Add an opinionated mother-in-law, a precocious child, an ex-wife and a gregarious director to the mix, and the result is an enduring, industry-insider comedy that's charmed audiences for decades. Critic's Choice first opened at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on December 14, 1960, and was made into a 1963 film starring Bob Hope and Lucille Ball.
