Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead: Absurdist Comedy
Tom Stoppard's acclaimed absurdist tragicomedy follows the limited adventures of the doomed courtiers Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, two minor characters from Shakespeare's Hamlet -- played in this Cabal Productions' version by Houston favorites Brain Heaton and Cris Skelton. The Laurel-and-Hardy-like pair are only incidentally involved in the main action of the play and spend their time engaging in the playwright's signature witty repartee and slapstick comedy as they move slowly and unavoidably toward their fates. Stoppard's timeless exploration of identity and illusion won the Tony Award for Best Play in 1968.
