Rumors: Neil Simon's Laugh-Out-Loud Farce Considered a Classic
Huntington Beach Playhouse's 50th anniversary season rolls on with Neil Simon's Rumors, which the Pulitzer Prize-winner calls his first true farce. Here's the set-up: Three affluent couples arrive at an upper-crust Manhattan party to discover that their host, who happens to be the Deputy Mayor of New York, has accidentally shot himself -- through the earlobe. Desperate to save his reputation, the couples go to elaborate and zany lengths to keep the police from finding out the truth, resulting in a hilariously tightening web of deceit and plenty of classic slamming doors. Terri Miller Schmidt directs.
