Iranian kamancheh (spike-fiddle) virtuoso Kayhan Kalhor and the adventurous American string quartet Brooklyn Rider come together, courtesy of the Philharmonic Society, to bridge the traditions of Eastern and Western music. A Grammy-nominated soloist and composer, Kalhor is a member of Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Project and his compositions appear on all three of the Ensemble's albums. The multi-faceted Brooklyn Rider is becoming increasingly known for its creative programming and exciting collaborations, from dance companies to Bela Fleck and beyond. Kalhor and the quartet have performed together before, and bring their own compositions to this concert at the Irvine Barclay, along with a work by Philip Glass.
