Century-old ballet classic The Firebird
and innovative new dance work Texture of Time
share a bill in this eclectic evening of dance from Festival Ballet Theatre. Based on Russian myths about a magical glowing bird that's both a blessing and a curse to its captor, one-act ballet The Firebird
was originally choreographed by Michel Fokine in 1910 to the music of Igor Stravinsky. The program also features the premiere of Texture of Time
, a thought-provoking contemporary ballet that explores the visceral texture of time as it morphs from moment to moment. Featuring the cutting-edge choreography of Josie Walsh, the ballet is set to original music by composer Jealous Angel, and includes special effects by Academy Award winner Jim Doyle, using light and projections to help the dancers magically transcend time and space.
