Rex Smith, who made the role of Frederic in The Pirates of Penzance famous on both the Broadway stage and in the Universal film of the same name, will star as the Pirate King in MTW’s upcoming production of The Pirates of Penzance.

Smith made his Broadway debut as Danny Zuko in the original production of Grease! He received the Theater World Award for his portrayal of Frederic in the Joseph Papp version of The Pirates of Penzance on Broadway, and also starred in the Universal Pictures film adaptation with Kevin Kline and Linda Rondstadt.  On Broadway, Rex also starred in _The Human Comedy, Grand Hotel, The Scarlet Pimpernel _and most recently Annie Get Your Gun.  Rex also starred in Lincoln Center’s _Anything Goes, _The Kennedy Center’s West Side Story, and the Canadian production of _Sunset Boulevard _opposite Diahann Carroll.  On TV, Rex hosted Solid Gold, starred in ABC’s Street Hawk and the daytime TV series As The World Turns.  His TV movies include Sooner or Later (also the title of his platinum album featuring the hit song, “You Take My Breath Away”), Daredevil and Danielle Steele’s Once in a Lifetime. Rex has guest starred on the primetime series Norm, JAG, Caroline in the City, The Sentinel, Baywatch and Pacific Blue.  Rex most recently starred in the national tour of Kiss Me Kate.
