Musical Theatre West is happy to announce the addition of Richard Carpenter and his daughter Mindi to the presentation of Home for the Holidays at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center in Long Beach.
Mr. Carpenter is best-known as one half of the Carpenters, one of the best-selling musical groups of the 1970s. Both Richard and his sister Karen are alumni of California State University, Long Beach and the Carpenter Performing Arts Center is named in their honor.
Also appearing in this edition of Home for the Holidays: Broadway’s longest running Christine in The Phantom of the Opera, Dale Kristien. Bill Hutton (the original Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat_) and MTW favorite Darcy Roberts (_Curtains, Thoroughly Modern Millie, MTW’s The Andrews Brothers and_ The Pajama Game_) will also join in the merriment of the yuletide season.
_ Home for the Holidays_ is Musical Theatre West’s annual concert of music of the yuletide season and features live singers and dancers with an onstage orchestra and special guests. This year’s performance will continue the tradition that Musical Theatre West has established by bringing together many of their stars from past productions in an all-new celebration of the Holiday Season. Santa Claus will make his traditional visit, and invite all of the children in the audience onstage to hear the classic Christmas story ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.
Once again Lee Martino will serve as director/choreographer for Home for the Holidays. Ms Martino is another MTW favorite, having recently choreographed their productions of Never Gonna Dance, Guys and Dolls (for which she was nominated for a Los Angeles Ovation Award), La Cage aux Folles, Mame, The Full Monty, All Shook Up (Ovation nomination-Best Choreographer) and Silk Stockings. The production will feature a live onstage orchestra and a chorus of dancers and singers.
