Upbeat, full of funk and overtly political, duo Amadou & Mariam deliver a rousing concert of afrobeat and pop tunes at El Rey. Singer Mariam Doumbia and guitarist/vocalist Amadou Bagayoko met more than 30 years ago at the Institute for Young Blind People in the capital of Mali and they've been performing ever since. Stars throughout West Africa and France, they reached worldwide audiences with their 2005 album Dimanche a Bamako when supporting tours throughout the U.S. and the U.K. put the middle-aged musicians in front of crowds at Lollapalooza, Coachella and Glastonbury. Their album Welcome To Mali was nominated for a Grammy, they've toured with Blur and Coldplay, and they performed live at the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize ceremony. On their latest album La Confusion, the duo experiment with synthesizers and disco beats while giving a voice to their war torn country's pain and extolling its rich musical soul.
